Historic Downtown Marion welcomes you to our community with the
Marion History Walk, which showcases our community and gives you
a glimpse of our past. Markers weave our tale as you stroll
through many architectural treasures. The
Town of
Chilhowie has a historical tour as well.
Take in a performance at the
historic
Lincoln Theatre. Built in 1929 as a movie house, this
completely renovated Mayan Revival theater now hosts all types
of performing arts events including concerts, musicals plays and
children's programs.
If you're a Civil War history
buff, you've definitely come to the right place. Follow the
Civil War Trail to see battlefields and other important war
sites. Be sure to visit
Saltville in August to see the War Between the States Battle
Reenactment.
With the popularity of genealogy
today, there are many ways to trace your roots in Smyth County.
Cemeteries, libraries, churches and the Smyth County Museum and
Courthouse hold record's that date back to many early southwest
Virginia's pioneer families.
