This workshop is designed for anyone interested in starting or growing tourism related business. SCEF Billy Wagner Golf Tournament
Former Big Leaguer and Tazewell graduate Billy Wagner will be hosting a benefit golf tournament at Holston Hills Golf Club on Friday May 11th. The seven time All-Star, who pitched collegiately at Ferrum College, played 15 season for Houston, Philadelphia, New York (N), Boston and Atlanta, retiring after the 2010 season. Of his many career highlights, Wagner combined with 5 other Houston Astros pitchers to throw a no-hitter against the New York Yankees in June of 2003 and finished his career 5th on the All-time Saves list, and ranks second among left-handers. Born in Marion, Wagner is hosting the tournament to benefit the Smyth County Educational Foundation and his Second Chance Learning Foundation. The format is 4-man Captain Choose and teams may play in the morning or afternoon with everyone being able to play at least one hole with Wagner. Lunch will be provided, along with awards and door prizes. The event will also features a Silent Auction and among the items being auctioned are an Autographed Vince Carter basketball shoe, a UVA football autographed coach Mike London, autographed pictures of Ryan Fitzpatrick (Buffalo Bills), Hines Ward (former Pittsburgh Steeler) and Troy Aikman (former Dallas Cowboy). Cost per team is $300 or $75 for an individual, plus there are several different opportunities for, hole flag and cart sponsorships. HMSP Presents a Screening of Green Fire
Hungry Mother State Park is hosting a screening of Green Fire! See the first full-length, high-definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold, author of A Sand County Almanac. Green Fire shares highlights from his extraordinary career. It also illustrates how Leopold's vision of a community that cares about both people and land continues to inform and inspire people across the country and around the world, highlighting modern projects that put Leopold’s land ethic in action in a multitude of ways. The Holston Rivers Chapter Virginia Master Naturalists is hosting a free screening of Green Fire for the community followed by a discussion led by award winning local author Jim Minnick, author of The Blueberry Years.

UPWARD Soccer 2012
First United Methodist Church in conjunction with the Eric Albano Youth Soccer Foundation (EAYSF) will be conducting evaluations to participate in UPWARD Soccer for children in grades K-6th. Evaluations and signups will be held April 17th & 24th for K-2nd and April 19th & 26th for 3rd-6th at Riverbend Park (Old Sewer plant site in Marion, VA). Volunteers are also needed for evaluations, coaching and officiating. Training will be provided. Forms may be picked up at area schools, FUMC, Albano & Associates.
