2013 Business Appreciation Week Luncheon

The Chamber of Commerce of Smyth County, Inc. is joining the statewide celebration of Virginia Business Appreciation Week 2013 from June 3-7.  This years theme is "2013: Advancing Workforce Excellence". Each of the towns of Chilhowie, Marion, and Saltville, as well as the Smyth County Board of Supervisors, adopted a resolution presented by the Chamber to recognize this time as Business Appreciation Week in their locality.

The Chamber will host the annual Business and Industry Appreciation Luncheon at the General Francis Marion Hotel and Conference Center in Marion.  The luncheon will be held from 12:00-1:00pm on Friday, June 7 and registration is open to all representatives of businesses and industries in Smyth County.

The luncheon will serve to celebrate the accomplishments of our local businesses and industries, recognizing their leadership and contributions to our community.  There will be information regarding local efforts to support entrepreneurs.  In addition, the Business and Industry Appreciation Luncheon will feature a special presentation by Anita McGinnis, the Executive Director of Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing, Inc.

The Chamber of Commerce of Smyth County celebrates Virginia's Business Appreciation Week annually, but works throughout the year to assist businesses, industries, and entrepreneurs by providing workshops, resources, and other support.

Memorial Day Parade with FREE Lemonade

The Chamber of Commerce of Smyth County, Inc. is proud to support our Veterans and recognize all those who have served our country. The Chamber's Special Events Committee will host a Lemonade Stand on the corner of Broad and Main Streets during the VFW Memorial Day Parade in Marion on Monday, May 27. They will have the Chamber's big green tent set up with FREE lemonade for all!  In addition, they will have an information table for community events.

2013 Children First Nominations

Each year, the Chamber of Commerce of Smyth County, Inc. seeks nominations for our Children First Award.  This award is given annually to an individual who has made a positive impact on the students of Smyth County's schools.  The individual may be a teacher, administrator, school nurse, guidance counselor, media specialist, administrative assistant, custodian, bus driver, cafeteria employee, maintenance employee, volunteer, or any other person who has made a noteworthy contribution to the education and well-being of Smyth County Students.  The children of Smyth County are the future of our community, and we must all work together to ensure their success.  Help us recognize the efforts of someone who is making our future brighter by leading the way for Smyth County's children!
Nominations must be submitted to the Chamber of Commerce of Smyth County, Inc., PO Box 924, Marion, VA 24354.  Three letters of support must accompany each nomination.  All nominations must be received at the Chamber office by 5:00pm on Friday, June 14, 2013.

Bike Smyth County & Survival Challenge Ride

The Chamber of Commerce is expanding our Bike Smyth County event for 2013 and offering three different routes for various levels of ability.  There will be a Family Ride, Advanced Ride, and our NEW Survive Smyth County Challenge Ride.  This metric century (100k) travels some of the most beautiful and challenging mountain roads in our region.  While this ride is a benefit to the participants who will have the awesome experience of riding the roads of Smyth County, another purpose of the event is to raise awareness and funds for the Mel Leaman Free Clinic of Smyth County.  In order to raise as much funding as possible, the Chamber is working to recruit sponsors for this event.
